Perspiring on purpose

2019. 10. 6. Sunday. Sunny windy.

I’ve seen people running for exercise. Even during hot summer, people run on streets. Most people prefer wearing short shirts and pants to long ones when they run. It seems reasonable considering that our body would be heated up by running. We need to wear shorts so that our body can be cooled down. However have you seen people running wearing long sleeve shirts, long pants and sometimes even with hoodies? I could see those people even during the summer. Apparently they were dying or about to die. One day I asked one of them,
‘Why are you wearing like that?’
He said,
‘In this way I can sweat a lot more so that I can lose more weight.’
He seemed to think that sweating more equated to losing weight

Our body consumes energy by moving muscles. Running is one way to move our muscles and consume energy. Perspiring is for cooling down our body temperature. When our body gets heated, it will lose more water by sweating. Can it be considered as losing more weight?
Our body needs homeostasis. When the temperature goes up, we sweat and when the temperature goes down, we heat up our body. Heating up our body needs energy. Animals, for example polar bears, need a lot of calories to maintain their body temperature in freezing cold weather. They don’t need to do exercise to burn their fats because of the cold weather. In the same manner it seems safe to say that if we want to burn more fats which is losing weight, we should make our body cold.
Perspiring a lot during the summer on purpose might be seen as lost weight temporarily. What happens after we drink water to compensate for lost water in our body. You don’t drink water not to see your weight going up? You’ll be dehydrated severely and then..? 😄
